Sustainability at World Floorball Championships 2024 explored during workshop

Sustainability at the World Floorball Championships 2024 in Malmö, Sweden, was the subject of a workshop in February, with the GAMES project referenced as one of the key areas of work.

A group of 10 participants from the Swedish Floorball Federation, International Floorball Federation (both GAMES partners), Greentime, the City of Malmö and Malmö Arena got together to share knowledge and experience, as well as exploring what can be done to create a more environmentally-responsible Championships, which will occur in December 2024.

As part of the workshop, Tero Kalsta, sales coordinator at the IFF, shared insights into the GAMES project and unveiled a report showcasing sustainability work undertaken at the World Floorball Championships 2022 in Zürich. During the Championship, an environmental audit was undertaken by the technical partner of the GAMES project, the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, Italy.

The findings of a survey conducted by the Swedish Floorball Federation, that will influence the way it is working on sustainability topics as a federation, was also discussed.

Greentime, a company that supports the sustainable organisation of events, explained its work and showcased its web-based sustainability tool that will track and report sustainability work during the World Floorball Championships 2024.

Future workshops, meetings and training opportunities will follow alongside the City of Malmö, Malmö Arena and Greentime, as well as other partners and sponsors. These events will contribute towards the creation of a sustainability policy for the World Floorball Championships 2024.
